T Joseph Yoakum & Michael W. Pierce
About Us: M.O.C.D. (Musical Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is a project driven by Michael W. Pierce & T Joseph Yoakum. Tim & I started this project about 7 years ago, although we played in a cover band together about 40 years ago (Man! Time flies). We have played together off and on in various projects throughout the years. This project is a collection of originals. Give us a listen and see what you think!
About Michael: I have been singing since I was 4 years old. Singing along to my brother Johnny's Beatles records is my first memories of music. I taught my self to play guitar at the age of 12. The only chord I knew was Em and I played everything in that chord, it was terrible, Lol. Tim & I started a band called "Defiance" when I was about 22 and a few years later I was in another band called Grand Slam.
I've also played at weddings and parties pretty much like every musician out there. Some of my influences are "The Beatles", Hall & Oates, Ambrosia, John Denver, Christopher Cross just to name a few. There are a lot more but that's the basics. I love writing songs. It's cool to have a germ of an idea and watch it become something, good or bad. I still play guitar and dabble a bit with the bass and keys and am involved in the mixing and mastering process of the songs.
About Tim:
I was probably 3 and 1/2 ( from what my mother tells me) when I started playing piano. I could hear songs once they were played and figure them out. I played by ear until I was about 16. I took a course in music theory in high school and continued on into college. I learned how to read chord charts at that time.
I always wanted to have a singing ability but never really considered myself very much of a singer other than knowing and understanding harmonies and singing backup vocals.
As Michael said, we met when I was about 22 and I was playing in another band at the time. I favored writing and performing original music which the band I was in did not: they were content to do covers only.
When I met Michael, I invited him over to listen to some of the songs he had written. I was immediately impressed with his singing ability and his writing ability. It was at that time that I put the former band behind me and formed a band with Mike.
My influences are all over the place and the kind of music I like to listen to is all over the place as well. As far as influences go, I would have to list the strongest ones.
They are: The Beatles, Elton John, Billy Joel, Billy Preston, Andre Crouch, and the Eagles.
Obviously, there are many more.
I have had other musicians point out different things about my style that reminded them of artists some of which I had never even heard of..( which made me go to listen to them).. that kind of thing is fascinating to me.
